SK Moinuddin, the left arm spinner from the Karnataka Ranji team of 2012-14 is a familiar face in Karnataka cricket. He was a regular fixture in the Karnataka Premier League and from the past two years he has not been part of the league for various reasons, but this season he is picked by the Shivamogga Lions franchise. And he is all set to make an impact this time as he has showed an excellent form in the KSCA division League.
Moinuddin speaks to CricKarnataka about his return to KPL, and his future plans.

Moinuddin, how do you feel about being back in the KPL after two years?
I'm very happy to be back in the KPL, I had some good peformances in the KSCA league and that has boosted my confidence and I'm thankful for Shivamogga Lions franchise for picking me and I'm looking forward to playing again.

What's the reason behind your absence from KPL for 2 years, if you could share something about that.
I had chances in my Railways department, so I was quite busy there. Due to this I played very less KSCA matches so I wasn't really in the competition for the KPL. And the one of the seasons, they failed to add my name in the auction list so I couldn't get picked, but I got to know about it only later, so didn't have much to do that Season.

Tell us about playing for the Karnataka Ranji team.
I was part of the Ranji team for 2 seasons from 2012-2014. But I got to feature only in one Ranji match and that was against Maharashtra. I picked 2 wickets there.
Back then, the team used to play 4 pacers ( Mithun, Vinay Kumar, Arvind and Stuart Binny) and there used to be only one spinner and that spot was taken by KP Appanna so I didn't get many chances to play for the state team.

Tell us something about your childhood and your early years of cricket.
Basically I'm from Raichur and I started cricket there with my brother Syed Nooruddin. Later I played for Raichur Under 14s and I was then picked up for the Karnataka state under 14's.
I had good performances in the under 14's so I directly got into the under 16 as well. Later I went on to play in all the age groups like under 19s, 23s and 25s and the Thimmappiah Memorial tournament.
I was part part of the Karnataka team and also played in the Buchi Babu tournament and the Moin-ud-dowlah trophy,  in the 2010-11 Shafi Darshah trophy, I was the highest wicket taker. So that's about my early cricket career.

Tell us about your journey in the KPL.
In the first season of the KPL, I played for the Mangalore United, later I played for Malnad Gladiators and now I'm again playing the KPL with the Shivamogga Lions, so its been a good journey and expecting to perform well with this new team.

How is your preparation going on for this year's KPL?
I'm practicing for it and I'm also doing some fitness regimes. I am also doing some weight training so very much looking forward for the tournament and would want to replicate the same success that had in the division league.

Is there any message that you want to give the people who are reading this?
Well, I have heard some people speaking negative about me and say that I'm old. But I don't really know on what basis these people come to such conclusions. Because I'm just 30 now and my body is fit, just like any other athlete and I'm also having good performances.
One thing that I always have in me is that, I would never give up on Cricket. The game has given me so much and I would continue playing it until the time that I have the game inside me.
I'm still a fighter and will try to give my best with every opportunity that I get and with God's grace, I'm hoping for the best.

Anything that you would want to say about CricKarnataka.
I'm very happy to see you work so hard in getting the local players, the recognition that they deserve. Most of the media is always covering the star players, but you are trying to showcase the stories of those cricketers who have inspite of achieving, haven't got recognition.
So I wish you all the very best for all your future endeavors, thank for doing this.

Thank you, SK MOINUDDIN, it's been a pleasure speaking to you and hearing about all your opinions and plans. We are happy for your come back and we hope you get all the success that you deserve.
Good luck Moin!!
